Welcome!

Welcome to the Mean Green Comet Scholars Lab blog! The Mean Green Scholars Lab is the 20 day policy debate lab at the Mean Green Comet Debate Institute. The Scholars Lab is run by National Championship coaches Phil Samuels and Gabe Murillo, check out their full bios here.

The Scholars lab is a skills and strategy intensive lab. Between practice rounds, speech redos, mini debates, and other speech activities students will be thinking about and executing debate strategy every day of the institute. Students will leave the institute with a solid understanding of debate arguments and strategy, prepared to not only execute on the topic generics produced by the camp but also to develop and write new and innovative arguments.

Students will learn to exceed in their circuits. Special time is taken to teach students to adapt their speaking style and arguments to the common set of judges they will encounter during their season. The Scholars Lab has excelled in training debaters to succeed in local and regional circuits, Urban Debate Leagues, and National Circuit debate. We will create a plan to assure every student is well equipped to use the knowledge they gained at institute when they return to their circuit.

We also understand that teachers and parents want to know what their students are doing during camp, which is why we'll use this blog to post updates and schedules throughout the 20 days your students are at institute.

Thanks for checking out our blog, check back for posts throughout the semester and we hope to see you this summer in the Mean Green Comet Scholars Lab!

First Starter Pack File!

Here is the first file for our 2018 Starter Pack! The Derrida K questions the ethical nature of immigration process and policy. This criticism focuses on the ethical nature of legal and institutional reform and our ethical responsibility to others. In the Scholars Lab students will have the opportunity to not only learn about Derrida and Deconstruction, but also work through their strategy and block writing one on one with their lab leaders. You can download a copy of the file  here.
