Jerrell Braden Memorial Scholarship

We are excited to announce the second year of the Jerrell Braden Memorial Scholarship. This is a full ride scholarship available for a student who is interested in attending the Scholars Lab at the Mean Green Comet Debate Institute. Jerrell was a close friend to many in the debate community and passed away at a tragically young age. Jerrell believed that policy debate provided students with the skills necessary to engage the world and the empathy necessary to advocate for and improve their communities. Interested students should send proof of financial need and a letter to demonstrate their belief that policy debate means as much to them as it did to Jerrell. Send your applications and any questions to gabriel.murillo@unt.edu. Check our  website  for our scholarship page for more information on this and other scholarships.

First Starter Pack File!

Here is the first file for our 2018 Starter Pack! The Derrida K questions the ethical nature of immigration process and policy. This criticism focuses on the ethical nature of legal and institutional reform and our ethical responsibility to others. In the Scholars Lab students will have the opportunity to not only learn about Derrida and Deconstruction, but also work through their strategy and block writing one on one with their lab leaders. You can download a copy of the file  here.

Immigration Topic!

Its official Immigration will be the 2018-2019 high school topic! We are excited to start researching the following resolution: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce its restrictions on legal immigration to the United States. Check out a topic synopsis  here. Lab leaders Phil and Gabe both coached on the NDT/CEDA Immigration topic and are already crafting curriculum and core files for the camp. We understand the strategy and arguments that will be prevalent on this topic and will be sure your students are prepared to debate all aspects of the topic. We are already working on lectures and activities to make sure our students are knowledgeable about the history of immigration and all the details about our current immigration policy. Process counterplans are going to be a common negative strategy on this topic, and we are expanding and updating our lectures and activities about counterplans to make sure they focus on this popular negative strateg
